About

ZL WAN is a special interest group of amateurs from Manawatu-Whanganui amateur radio clubs.

The primary goal of this network is to link high sites and other common locations such as club rooms and EOC’s via multiple redundant paths to each site, utilising GURL wireless links in the 900MHz, 2.4GHz, 5.8GHz bands, along with VPN tunnels between sites over existing public internet using Fiber, DSL, Cellular, WISP, Star Link etc.

From this services can be attached, repeaters, cameras, site monitors, web hosts, weather stations.

We currently have a point of presence at the following locations:

  • North Range Road (NRR) – Palmerston North
  • Totara Road (TTR) – Palmerston North
  • Maewa (MAE) – Whanganui
  • Wye Street (WYE) – Palmerston North
  • Paisley Street (PLY) – Palmerston North
  • Parata Street (PRA) – Waikanae

Wireless connections via Point to Multi Point radios at some of these sites will be possible in the future for amateurs to connect to over the air.
